Lines and Lyrics: learning the language verse by verse
Irish-language verse, including both poetry and song, contains a wealth of language and these two traditions continue to flourish today. Aimed at learners of the language, over the course of a weekend you will encounter the music of the language under the direction of a recognised teacher and singer.

The course will cover a selection of Irish-language songs and poems. The texts will be explained and their background and meaning will be discussed. Participants will be guided in pronunciation and there will be plenty of opportunities for the group to practice singing in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Poetry and song often provide an insight into important idioms as well the history and culture of Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity to improve your understanding of the language and enrich your vocabulary.
Please note that this course is directed at beginners and those who have an intermediate ability in Irish. If you are a fluent speaker, you may be interested in Oideas Gael’s Language & Culture Summer School in July, where there is a sean-nós singing workshop every year.
